Listening Sessions and Workshops

January-March 2014: Listening Sessions and Workshops

In early 2014, the Tonto NF invited the USFS National Collaboration Cadre to help assist the forest in organizing the public participation effort for the Forest Plan Revision effort. The Cadre provides assistance to National Forests and their communities who are interested in understanding and developing collaborative processes.

A four-person Cadre team conducted one-hour listening sessions with 91 community members and stakeholders on January 22-23, 2014 in Scottsdale, Globe, Payson, and Mesa. These listening sessions helped inform the Cadre of existing collaborative potential and limitations. Based on input received at these sessions, the Cadre designed and hosted two all-day workshops attended by forest staff and stakeholders on March 6, 2014 in Tempe and March 8, 2014 in Tonto Basin. The purpose of these workshops was to build relationships, share learning, and begin working together on a public participation strategy for the Forest Plan Revision.
